Guide to Useful Agility

I’ve written this with the benefit of hindsight. This is by no means a guide to getting 99 or anything like that. Mostly this is aimed towards people who want to get a quest cape or at least a lot of quest points and want to be able to use most of the shortcuts.

Why Train Agility:

There are 3 reasons that I can think of to train agility:
1) Quests and diaries (need 60 for the cape)
2) Shortcuts (85 for the highest, 80 for all the really useful ones)
3) Ability to run for long periods of time

Of course you could go for the cape. But this is about helping people get to 60 or maybe 80.

Everything is open to you after that. Continuing training beyond will allow you to run for longer periods of time but won’t really affect your abilities in other areas.

At a minimum I’d recommend everyone get to 50 agility for the run replenishment. If you want to be a serious slayer I would suggest 71 for the spiked chain in the slayer tower.

Useful Items:

Explorer Ring-You get this from the Lumbridge diary. It’ll replenish part of your energy 3x a day. Very useful since it’s basically a free daily super energy pot.

Boots of Lightness, Penance Gloves, Spotted/Spottier cape-Honestly I rarely use these. At least not when training agility. If you’re training agility don’t be carrying around a ton of stuff. It’s that simple. If you want to wear them feel free but you’re just as well off not carrying tons of stuff.

Spirit Terrorbirds-Use the tireless run scrolls to replenish energy. May not be usable on all courses. Cheaper then pots and no weight.

Energy/Super Energy Pots-Allows you to run longer thus train faster. Use them if you have them. Energy pots are pretty easy to make, I’d suggest using these if you want to save money.

Prayer-No don’t use prayer pots. But if you’re somewhere you’re going to take damage turn on the rapid heal prayer when you are low. Most agility training causes you to lose a percentage of your health, lower the health less HP you lose. So you don’t want to be at full health. However, you may want to replenish some health. Cheap, easy, light. Three good things.

Bracelet of Regeneration-Expensive. Restores hp faster but I personally think it’s overkill.

Methods of Training:

There are two methods of training, running in circles and everything else. Some people prefer one to the other. I’d suggest you spend at least 1 hour at each of these to get a feel for what you like. In fact, I recommend that if you are going to train agility to do one task for one hour. At first it may feel odd since you aren’t used to how things are set up for the course/activity. But then you get a rhythm going. Don’t quit! Take advantage of it, most of my xp is after the first 30 minutes of training once I get used to it.

Running in Circles:

Gnome Stronghold:
86 xp per lap
Starting Level: 1
Recommended Level 1:

Agility Pyramid:
1014 per lap
Starting Level:30
Recommended Level:40
Take water skins and run up this pyramid. I’d suggest it at 40 since you won’t fail as much. Grab the golden pyramid at the top and turn it in for cash. Approx 2.5 mins per lap. Not the fastest xp but I find this course very enjoyable.

Penguin Course:
540 per lap
Starting Level: 30
Recommended Level:35 or so
Must do Cold War and be dressed as a penguin. Fun course, pretty to look at. Xp per hour isn’t bad for this level.

Barbarian Outpost:
152 per lap
Starting Level: 35
Recommended Level: 35
Must complete the barcrawl. This is a Relleka diary task also. I much prefer both the pyramid and penguin courses at this level.

Ape Atoll:
580 per lap
Starting Level: 48
Recommended Level: 60
Must have started Monkey Madness and gotten a greegree. Much better to finish it and get the teleport to Ape Atoll too. If you want to train in a group W46 always has monkeys in it. You stop failing it at 75. However, around 60 or so you’ll stop failing it enough for it to make sense to train here. Take a knife, there’s a pineapple spawn that you can use for food. If you point your compass “N” to the lower left of your compass dial and make some camera angle adjustments you can leave it there the whole time you’re training. This will save you time and motion. I’ve heard rumors of 55k an hour but I average closer to 45k.

Wildnerness:
571per lap
Starting Level: 52 (49 with pot)
Recommended Level: 52 or more
I hated it with Pk’ers and barely like it more with revs. If you go take 3 items. Use the Ardougne wilderness teleport. Very popular however and if you can find a world with a lot of people it makes it easier.

Werewolf:
540 per lap
Starting Level: 60
Recommended Level: 60
Need a Ring of Charos from Creature of Fenkenstrain. I like this one a lot. Can only fail the death slide and sometime in my mid 70’s I quit failing it. Remember to pick up the stick and return it to the werewolf for the lap bonus. Fairly close to Canifis for banking. I like doing it with some Skullball mixed in to break up long training sessions.

Dorgesh-Kaan
2750 per lap
Starting Level: 70
Recommended Level: 80
Wear a mining helmet. Requires Death to the Dorgeshkaan. Fairy ring code is AJQ or you can get there by walking through the city of Dorgesh-Kaan. Talk to Turgal and he tells you what to bring him. I’d suggest doing this for agility and not the range part of it. Use the spanner on the console to get a cog, powerbox or lever. This can be failed at all levels. At around level 78 I started getting more xp/hour here then at Ape. I put the item I’m supposed to get in my ignore box to remember.

Non Running In Circle Methods:

Mice: 3xp each time you catch one. Buy or make a clockwork mouse. Find the smallest room you can. If you like lots and lots of clicking this is for you.

Gnomeball: In the NW corner of the Gnome Stronghold. I can’t do this for long but if you like it it’s not a bad way to train at lower levels.

Blast Furnace: Get on the bike and ride. Drains your energy pretty fast and doesn’t give a ton of xp. However, thought I’d mention it.

Rogue’s Den: Requires 50 thieving and 50 agility. Run the maze and at the end you might get a piece of rogue armor or a rogue kit. XP isn’t bad, the maze is kind of fun and it’s a break from the usual training methods. Not sure what to do with the Rogue Armor other then put it in my house. Makes for a fun event to do with a group of people.

Skullball: I know people who love it. Personally not my thing. Try to kick a ball soccer style through a werewolf course of wickets. (It’ll make more sense when you try it). You can get 750 xp in 4 mins which makes it the fastest training from 25 to about 48, if you can stand it.

Brimhaven Agility Arena: Wear Karamja Gloves from the Diary and get 10% bonus on every obstacle and on your ticket cash in. I’d recommend saving up to 1,000 tickets. Level 40 obstacles are pretty easy after level 50. This is another one of those fun activities. Each pillar has a ticket dispenser. You have to tag the dispenser and get the ticket before it changes. If you cash in 1000 tickets at a time you’re making about 350xp a minute. Wear monk robes as they are lightweight and will make your prayer last longer. Pray rapid heal when you are down to about 10hp. Failing the level 40 traps will cause you to temporarily lose agility levels. I’d recommend taking an agility pot or two if you are close to 40.

Shortcuts: They are marked by the green arrows. Most of them give a small amount of agility xp. Mostly so small it’s not worth noting.

Circus: This is a must do for agility!!! I can get about 8k a week. Starting out I think a more realistic number might be 4k a week. That's still one or two levels for 2 minutes of work. Go to a bank and look for a barker (they aren't at every bank but still). Find out where the circus is. Do each agility action one time. Take an agility pot if you want.

Lamps/Books/Quest Rewards: I wouldn’t use lamps/books or other things like that on Agility. It’s free and it’s relatively fast. There are more expensive harder skills to use that (summoning, herblore, construction).

Training Plan:
This plan is what I would do now if I had to do it again. Actually, if I had to do it again I’d quit but that’s a different issue.

Levels 1-24 Gnome Stronghold, 73 laps. Should take about an hour and never go there again. At 24 go to the circus and do each agility action one time. You should have success with at least 3 which should help you along.

Level 24 Recruitment Drive (1k agility xp)

Level 25-44 Grand Tree Quest, Kennith’s Concern, Fremmenik Trial, Troll Romance, Cold War, Icthlarin’s Little Helper , Land of the Golbins, Royal Trouble, Cabin Fever(I’d do Grand Tree first then do the rest according to what my other skill levels are.)

Level 44-48 Skullball, Agility Pyramid, Penguin Course, Brimhaven, Barbarian Outpost. Spend an hour at each (probably starting at Barbarian and working your way to the beginning of the list). I’d say the fastest at this level are Skullball and Agility Pyramid depending on your preference. You’ll need 33k xp for these 4 levels. Plan on 3-4 hours here.

Level 48 RFD-Saving Awwogai
If you want to stop here you’re in good shape. You’re close to 50 agility and have a good run replenishment rate.

You should have only spent 4 hours training agility in addition to the quests. None of those quests are that long and have other benefits other then just the agility.

If you don't want to do the quests I'd substitute skullball, barbarian and agility pyramid here. At 45 the Agility Arena at Brimhaven becomes a decent choice.

If you want to continue on I’d suggest:

Level 48-52-Skullball, Agility Pyramid, Brimhaven. Check out Ape Atoll here if you want. You’ll need 40k here, so plan on about 3-4 hours.

Level 52-55: Wildy Arena. 43k. Shouldn’t take you more then 2 hours. Might want to get your Rogue Armor in the Rogue's Den around here too. Get to 50 thieving first though.

Level 55-57: Legacy of Seergaze, Defender of Varrock, Myths of the While Lands, Darkness of Hallowvale, Back to My Roots

Level 57-60: Wildy and Ape Atoll. Take your pick

Level 60 Grim Tales, Rocking Out and Mourning’s End II

Level 61-71: This'll let you use the Spiken Chain in the Slayer Tower. You'll need about 500k here. Ape Atoll, Wildy, Werewolf will all get you there in about 12 hours. Well worth training to at least this point.

This training plan will minimize your time on the low level courses and get you to the high payoff areas sooner.

Fantastic post Jax! When I'm at Brim, I usually bring cakes. When your health is low, they heal just enough so you don't die, but not enough to make it so that you get hit with higher damage. Plus they're light.

I think my favorite agility shortcut has to be the Ecto wall, when filling buckets with slime. Such a time saver!

Happy New Year! :)

Just fyi while in brimhaven, the lower your hp, the lower the damage you take when failing an obstacle. I try to keep my hp between 10-15 while Im there. No prayer is needed.
