WTH Is Jagex Thinking?

I'm not even going to link to it but you can find it on the front page.

Jagex has opened up a vote on bringing back old school wildy pking and free trade.

I'm just going to list out my thoughts and try not to cuss up a storm but no promises.

1) Let's start with Free Trade. I'd be fine with this IF we could go into the GE and set our prices. So if I want to sell coal for 200gp ea I can go in there and enter 200gp as my price. Maybe the ge would show an "advised range". But I really used to hate having to chase down buyers/sellers for my stuff. It was a huge pain and a fantastic way to rip people off. But if the GE remains as it is but people can trade for whatever then prices will go out of whack and become useless. I like one stop shopping!

2) Wildy pking. I was around before the end of free trade/wildy pking and I never considered pre2007 RS as the Golden Age. I'd rather deal with a rev then a pk'er any day of the week. If pking in the wildy comes back then forget about stars in the wildy, forget about penguins and we're back to forming a gang of people to help a friend with a wildy clue. To be honest, this only marginally bothers me. I'm red to most players so I'd be safe for a lot of stuff (though the people who could hit me could do some pretty massive damage fast). I rarely went into the wildy for any non clue reason before and I could go back to that now. But I'd like to see brawler gloves and all the other pking workaround stuff removed. If we're going to have to go back to the annoying days of pker's then take away all the "bandages" that have been put on pking in the interim (bye bye corrupt statius armor, and statues, and all the "fake" rewards from pking)

3) The voting mechanism. What idiotic Jagex manager thought that this was a good idea? Even a poorly run election in the most dictatorial regime could come up with something better then this. Did Jagex hire Kim Il Jong as their elections consultant? Entering your name which is at the TOP of the page registers you as a yes vote? So people who enter their name thinking that they are using it to ENTER the vote are actually VOTING? There's nothing to stop someone from creating 500 accounts and voting 500 times. Or, even easier, just go find a list of Jagex accounts and vote using all those names. Are you kidding me? Pull up high scores--there's 2 million names right there! A fairly organized group of people could divvy up the list and probably get a few hundred thousand votes in fairly easily.

So I'm left to believe one of two things:

1) Jagex had a wild Christmas party where some people got drunk off their ass and said "hehehehehe wouldn't it be funny to post a survey and get everyone all excited about bringing back the wildy?" and in that drunken state they designed their webpage and put it up without thinking about it at all and then went outside and tried to go sledding on garbage can lids. Today they are severely hungover and going "wth were we thinking?"

2) Jagex has already made the decision and is doing this to get buzz going about it.

85 Summoning. Used 46 penguin points. Made a few other things to get to 85. Going to make up some swamp titans next time I do slayer (feels like it's been a long time since I did slayer).

I've been checking the official forums lately. I like taking a quick cruise there at lunch, see if there's any hidden updates or any other good stuff. F2P can now use the forums. Good for them!! There's a lot of idiots on there saying "omg, no f2p on forums. Members are getting ripped off."

Oh, really? How is it even possible that f2p getting forums makes your membership less valuable?

People are complaining about more spam. Really? Cause I think p2p has done a great job of spamming and idiot posts before. There's plenty of threads posted on "how long will it take to get 1-99 wc" "i need money" or my favorite (found this yesterday) "skils are lame. jagexx shuld mak more melee stuf. i am lvl 76. noobs have 2 much gud stuf. high lvls need stuf so i can get more stuf." The forums were a mix of good quality posts and idiot spammers and incomprehensible leet speakers. This is not going to change a thing.

F2p is going to ask for more f2p stuff. Sure. Fine. Ask away. Some of them might have a really great idea for new content that benefits EVERYBODY!! how many hundreds of posts have been made along the lines of "i want a pony" "i want cars" " i want ninjas" . Do you see us having ponies/cars/ninjas in RS?

I pay for members. F2p are freeloaders/playing the demo. Uhm....Jagex is a VERY profitable company. Profitable companies are profitable because they MAKE MONEY! That's pretty much the magic formula profit=more money less costs. If you think your $5 a month covers the cost of your account you are crazy, stupid or both. Developers cost money. Servers cost money. Bandwidth costs money. Receptionists cost moneys. Lawyers cost lots of money. So does rent. The F2P people cover their costs. Not like members do (by providing a credit card or whatever) but by watching ads and other stuff. There's nothing new here. There are plenty of sites on the web where you can either buy membership or watch a 30 sec commercial before getting to the content you want. Trust me on this, Jagex is making money on f2p. If they didn't they wouldn't do it. It's too expensive to pay for servers/bandwidth/etc.

You get a TON of stuff that F2P doesn't by paying $5. What's $5? For me it's a coffee and donut. Sorry, and I know it will offend some of you....but it's spare change. It's not worth getting your undies in a knot about paying for. "omg I'm better then you because I can pay $5". Bah!

F2P doesn't deserve a voice because they don't pay. Yeah they do. Just not like you do (see the comment above about watching ads). I'll say this about Runescape and it applies to real life just the same. Not allowing people to speak based on how much they are paying in or taking out is wrong. It's immoral and it goes against both American and British political and cultural traditions. (Minus the occasional digressions that have almost always come around to bite us in the butt). To say that some people do not get a voice because they do not have money.....I would think long and hard about this. Because the next logical thing to say is "you should have less of a voice because you have less money". That never turns out well.....for anyone.

What I would LOVE TO SEE is that Jagex extend their requirements for F2p to get forum access (currently 12.5million xp) to 12.5 million xp ANd at least level 40 in 4 skills. And enforce that on MEMBERS AND NON MEMBERS BOTH!

Ok I'm tired from all that ranting. And I should clean it up. But I think I'll just hit Post.

Made it to 78 Hunter 2 days ago. Currently real life home remodeling has me a bit distracted from RS.

Sunday night met up with some friends and hunted KBD/KQ/Chaos Elementals. I'd never fought the KBD before and had only visited the other 2 once. Nothing great drop wise but it was interesting to go nonetheless. The chaos trip was a mess because we kept running into revenants that were just as tough as the elementals.

Had an interesting chat with a friend about training. I'll roll this into one thought as there are a number of things I'd touch on here.

I think anyone who has played RS for awile has experienced this. You are standing in a bank or you get a PM that says "I have million gp to spend. What should I buy?" This has always confused me. Are they really looking for a complete stranger to tell them what to buy? Do they have full barrows? Full dragon? 99 in every skill? To me, there's a lot more things I want to buy then cash I have. Ever.

So then...I fall for it. I say "Dragon bones and ecto them" or "work your lowest skill". Here's what I find happens:

1) There's a LOT of people who say "I have 70 prayer, don't need more.". That may be true in that prayers don't go higher then 70. However, 1/3 of 80 is more then 1/3 of 70, meaning each dose of prayer potions gives you more bang for your buck. And prayer lasts longer, which is handy. Is that enough of a reason to spend money raising it? That depends on your goals. Which is really what you should figure out before you start spending money.

2) The money isn't enough for something great (guthan's/dragonfire shield let's say). So they want something that will be great but for less money. Which doesn't really exist. Hence them standing there yelling or pming.

So what would I do with some extra money? Assuming that there is such a thing?

1) I don't like the idea of buying leveling supplies before 70 in a skill. Most of them level pretty fast up to that point (or around there). After that point it does change and I can see using money to buy leveling supplies.

2) I think "gear" is better money spent then supplies. If you buy something like a dragonfire shield you can use it to level faster. Then, when you are done, you have the option to sell it and recoup some of your money. At a minimum when starting out there's the need for rune axes, picks, armor etc. I like to have 2 of everything so one can stay as a bank placeholder.

3) There's nothing you are going to buy, use to level and get really rich. Maybe small profit. Maybe not. Depends on the market that day. Yes, flax to bowstrings is profitable. So is making runes. But that's a lot of work. Usually that's not an acceptable answer.

4) There is NOTHING wrong with saving your money. I had a few million and noticed that the price of dragon bones had dropped on the GE. By a lot. So I bought a lot. Got a level plus that way. Prices are now about 500gp higher then what I paid for mine. But to do that you have to have savings.

Rambling now. Going to work on another theory I have and may post it tomorrow.

Finally got 63 smithing. Hooray! Went and made the bow sword for Devious Minds. Then headed up to Neitznot to craft bowstrings.

Seems that we have gotten ourselves a few very weird clanners. I've had more truly odd and offputting private chats with clanners in the last week then I've ever had. There's been the general:
No I don't have a b/f. No I don't want a b/f. No I don't care what you have/skills/uberness you are about .....now go away conversations that seem to have spiked in the last month. Then there are these two winners.

Weirdo 1:
New to TCA. I introduce myself and welcome him. For the next few days he constantly is chatting with me. First he keeps wanting to hang out with me. Problematic since I'm doing ME 2 that week. Anyways, he's chatting a lot and asking me about the clan. Then he asks if I have a b/f. I say no. Then a few more minutes of chat and he says "Are you a boy?". At this time I'm running around the temple of light trying to finish a door before I run out of prayer and ignore him. I haven't heard from him since. As an experiment I say hi everytime I see him log in 2x. Nada. I've heard from one of the other "girls" that he's been chatting her up and asking her about her dating status.

Weirdo 2:
I'm smithing in Varrock and chatting to a few friends. I get a PM...are you chatting with X person. I say I've been chatting with him for an hour off and on. This is one of my really great friends (RGF) and we've been helping each other out the last few days. Next thing I know my really great friend tells me that X thinks we're b/f-g/f. WTF!?!? Because we're talking to each other? Turns out that X had gotten a misdirected PM and thought that RGF was talking to me when in fact he was talking to another person altogether! Really....how stupid can this get? I talk to guys in private chats all day to get help, offer help, buy stuff, guide them whatever. He kept bugging RGF.
