Maybe I'm in a slump. But it seems that suddenly Jagex is increasingly.....half assed about things. First they hold the clan month kickoff the same weekend as bonus weekend. Then they ask the clans to issue challenges, race etc. But with minimal advance warning-which is fine-I guess. Then when they post the individual challenge list they don't alphabatize that list. There's hundreds, if not thousands of names. Just thought it could be dropped into a spreadsheet and sorted by name. Just....a finishing touch you know? Anyways, on to the skilling. Decided to fool around a bit in the lumberyard doing that plank making game. I kind of enjoy it and it worked well as I chatted with a friend. But I'm a fan of minigames and puzzles. Not sure what the xp rate was and how it compared but I did get to 97 Woodcutting. (I'm going to guess about 50k in 30 minutes). A friend asked for a crafting assist and I ended up at 98 Crafting. Honestly, I have no idea how I trained. Which I guess is the point. I just did stuff that I liked. Next up 99 Thieving. I know how I trained this. I got to 95 with a little thieving on weekends. I decided to spend all of bonus weekend raiding tombs. Arguably not the fastest thieving xp in the game but it was fast enough and I could do it for long enough stretches to make it worth it. Got to nearly 98 over the weekend and then just kept at it. I found myself playing less, which is fine since I have a garden to prepare, but I'd get on and push a bit and finally hit 99 Thieving and 2430 total levels.

March 18, 2011

Took a day or two to recover from bonus xp weekend. Got 97 Attack, Strength and Defense before returning to thieving to pick up 98 Thieving. Our clan has a competition this week for thieving so aiming for 99 during that week. Then full bore into 99 hp after that (don't tell me it's constitution).

In the last few months I've become increasingly irritated with Jagex's decisions. The bugs, quite honestly, don't bother me. I understand lots of lines of code, millions of users....guaranteed bugs.

Bonus weekends meh. Yes they make things easier but it's a game and I get it. Wish it was better executed but it's minor.

Nope...the thing that makes me facepalm is twofold:

1) Why why why is a Jmod (Mod Poppy) starting a clan? Seriously? There's hundreds of people running hundreds of clans and Jagex starts their own? I don't get it. I know it's the year of clans (in fact, I think I said it before Jagex did :) ) but come on. Jmods have a huge advantage to running clans (think of recruitment) and a Jagex run clan is not within anyone's definition of what a clan is about. It should be about players forming groups of friends to do stuff. I realize that this is part of community outreach but it just hits me wrong. Normally not something I would rant about or even go beyond "meh" with but then

2) What the hell Jagex? Kicking off clan month the same weekend as bonus weekend? How does that make sense? What in the hell were you thinking? There's exactly 6 days a year that EVERYONE pretty much goes heads down into skilling and you had to pick 3 of them to kick off clan month? What about the other 10 months of the year?

March 14, 2011

Had a great bonus weekend in RL. Which kind of threw off my plans in RS.
Started the weekend by checking the RS forums. I really REALLY wanted to start playing but after the goofs of the last two weekends I decided to make a last minute check to make sure nothing was glitched/changed.
I would have been ok with a weird bug or some calculation issues. I had hoped that they had fixed all the technical bugs...and it looked like they did. But what's with nerfing the Circus bonus? They had 6 months to think about it and assess since the last bonus weekend and they waited until the day before to announce it?
So anyways. I made about 200 Super Anti Fires. My bank still had a lot of pots from the last two weekends and I didn't want to make more. Plus, I gave away some herbs and stuff to friends. Getting close to 99 Herblore and figured I could effigy/herbicide/herblore habitat/assist the last 700k.
After a quick herblore session it was off to Pyramid Plunder. Got to 96 and 97 Thieving. Halfway to 98. I was very conscious of skilling or logging out and not standing around doing nothing. For some reason I could theive for 3 or 4 rounds then I would log off, get some water, come back ,a few more runs, log off walk the dog etc. Altogether, played 10 hours over the weekend. The last hour was slaying.
Now I'm back to working on Slaying and Thieving. Getting close to a lot of levels.

February 20th, 2011

96 Ranged on the 17th followed by 96 Slayer on the 18th and then 95 Thieving on the 20th. So that brings everything up to at least 95.

I'm thinking of doing thieving for bonus weekend. I can't think of a skill I like less and the promise of really fast xp and big numbers kind of is motivating for me. Maybe some fishing or mining too, not sure.

Surprisingly, I'm not encountering as much off color language as I thought I would when the censor got removed. I have been in more remote areas lately so that may contribute to it, but it's been surprisingly normal.

December 21, 2010

December 13th 94 Cooking and 94 Thieving. Since then knocked out 94 Range (12/14), 95 Attack and Defence (12/16), 98 Herblore (12/16), 95 Strength (12/19), 94 Fishing (12/20) and then 95 Construction (12/21).

It's pretty much a ton of slayer during the week with some dungeoneering on weekends. While waiting for teams to form I do my bank standing skills. And play a little fish flinging with friends.

I've also been very disciplined about getting assists. Specifically, getting construction, smithing and runecrafting assists. I've even helped friends on occasion with herblore and crafting but I prefer to pass on those.

I was fortunate and made friends with a group of people who slay A LOT. That results in my getting about 4-6 requests a day for assists. Plus my friends and clan. I've been trying to hook people up with assisters which works out great for everyone involved.

I try to reset close to the same time everyday. If I don't have any friends who need an assist I hop over to w117 Daemonheim. I HIDE public (not turn it off) and then announce "Offering 91, 93 RC assist". The funny thing is, most people turn off their chat entirely. So you'll see someone offering 97 herblore standing next to a needing 97 herblore. Hence, hiding your chat lets you still see people chatting without spamming your chat box. Watch for people who care looking for what your offering. It rarely takes more then a few moments.

Got to 93 Thieving a few days ago. Have to admit, not a skill I like. I'm trying to do a combination of pyramid plunder, dwarf traders and monkey knife fighters to keep things interesting.

Pyramid plunder: Fast, doesn't require a ton of focus. Not a great way to make money. I use my enhanced excalibur and anti totem and that is more then adequate for healing/preventing poisoning which adds to my speed.

Dwarf traders: Lure a guard into a room and go crazy stealing from dwarves. Not the fastest xp but nice rewards. And it's quiet.

Monkey knife fighters: Good rewards, xp is pretty good. Probably the best of the combination of xp/gp. Does require a lot more concentration then I sometimes want to put into it. Go to the 2nd/3rd floor or you'll have a lot of people coming by to chat you up.

Otherwise, working on quite a bit of slayer during the week. Thieving and various other things on weekend. Been doing quite a bit of fish flinging too. The xp is good and I enjoy the puzzle of it.

September 5, 2010

About 2/3 of the way through the bonus weekend for me.

Spent the last week kind of getting ready for it. Unlike the previous weekend I had no skills that I had hard and fast goals for. As I blogged previously, I knew more about what I didn't want to do then what I did want to. Did the penguins in Tuesday night (right when they came out) and cashed in those points. Wednesday, after I reset the statue I got 2 rcing rocks and with it came 91 Runecrafting! Double nats plus effigies. (though as I've come to find out, finding people in need with for 91 runecrafting is a bit tricky. I usually see 3 or 4 other people advertising that they are offering 91 rcing).

Anyways, I made unfinished pots, gathered rocks, sold off all my herbs from 3 months of miscellania and bought a lot of dragon bones (not used yet, thinking of using them next weekend.) Went with a few friends dungeoneering. I'm running around like a crazy person and suddenly the magic fireworks go off. 91 Cooking?!?! I was close and someone cooked a bunch of fish and I guess it pushed me over.

Anyways, bonus weekend came. Started at the circus. Was watching the xp fall. Love the circus as a first stop. Range and mage are both slow for me. Then made pots. Had about 150 Torstols and made them all into overloads. 97 Herblore. Less then 30 minutes in and got my first level. Took off on a thieving tear and got to 91 Thieving within the first 2 hours. The intensity wore me down a bit so I did some cooking. And slaying. Loved slaying. First gargoyles which went fast since I used overloads/turmoil (trying to max out my bonus). Then I got abby spectres. Grabbed my cannon and headed to Pollinveach. Was hoping that nobody was there and got really lucky. Started cannoning and whipping spectres. Took a yak and grabbed up the good drops. No levels but a lot of xp there. By now I was 6 hours into it. Decided to take a breather and did some cooking while thinking about what to do next. A few more hours of thieving got me to 92 Thieving. The last 200k took forever. I kept getting bored and logging out. Anyways, in there I mixed in some dungeoneering runs too. Friends were organizing runs and I went along. Made it to 80 and then 81 Dungeoneering.

Not bad for 2 days worth of skilling.

4/29/2010

I think I'm finally beating my (RL) cold. Which was probably a level 130. And yes, when I'm sick in RL I play differently. Hardly chat, don't want to do anything that requires focus or even a brain cell.

Anyways, got to 89 Defense doing slayer. Did some tasks that were slow and easy. Bit of Tears (note: doing Dungeoneering with a cold is a bad bad idea) up to 46 Dungeoneering.

And knocked out the new "capers" for 89 Thieving.

Mostly working on gathering rocks, doing fish flingers and mining stars. Would have loved to do more dungeoneering but really didn't want to get tied into something that long.

I did try to take on Jad. Well, Kuradel suggested that she'd give me a bonus if I did. So what the heck. I didn't think I'd get all the way through but I had a great run. And then decided to just finish the task in the Fight Caves. It's safe, you die and you respawn outside with full health and prayer. Went pretty fast. I think when I next get asked to go deal with Jad I'll get all the way to him and end up owning a firecape.

October 18, 2009

Been doing mostly slayer. A few friends had house parties so I worked prayer there. But I don't like slaying on weekends. So I worked on Thieving (Thieving 88).

Been doing about 2 clues a day. Got a few good items, best of which is a Guthix plate. Otherwise it's just been a slaying slog.

Been thinking about writing more guides but can't think of anything that hasn't been covered. If you have any ideas let me know.

October 12, 2009

Spent the weekend working on prayer and thieving. Mostly thieving (87 Thieving). Got bored with the pyramid. Heard that the customs records were worth checking out. So headed over to Rimmington and got myself thrown in jail. Worked my way up to the customs records room and started looting. Not the fastest xp. Maybe at 63 or so. Decent loot, half ores half random other stuff. Interesting part was a I got a 1 clue clue scroll. Meaning I went where it told me and claimed my reward. If I really wanted to get a lot of level 2(?) scrolls done I'd do more of this.

Went to a couple of house parties and offered bones. 87 Prayer. Nothing fancy about it.

Now it's Monday and I'm back to working slayer. Got 88 Hitpoints first thing. Now it's lots of hellhounds and a slog to my next level.

1935 Total.

October 10, 2009

During the week I've been doing slayer. Weekends is bank clean out and did some thieving today. Got to 87 Thieving, 87 Range and 86 Slayer.

My favorite tasks are bloodvelds (mutated ones near the blood altar are great, fast and cannonable), dagganoths and anything I can kill in the chaos tunnels. At this point geyser titans are my best friends. Nice extra hits. And cannons.....I'm really disliking bows and such. But cannons are such fast xp it makes range bearable. And I make enough from the slayer tasks to cover the cannonballs.

April 11, 2009

You know how you get skill in a lot of skills a tiny bit at a time? Then you look and suddenly you are about to level?

Tested stealing from chest in Dorgesh-kaan. A friend had made a map and I just wanted to see how his guide worked. His guide was great. The rewards.....hmmm....disappointing. Was hoping for more charms, got about 1 every 12 chests. Did get 86 Thieving though. Did my usual farming routine and then the spirit tree told me an evil tree was about to sprout. Went to that and then went to use Leprechaun magic (one of the best rewards in my opinion). Got to 90 Woodcutting.

Noticed I was close so went and got 83 Fishing.

I also discovered a volatile tool in my bank. So I used it up, got xp in all kinds of skills.

March 25, 2009

85 Thieving!

Did some hunting. Might have found a new spot I like better. More testing tonight.

Just noticed that I'm closing in on 100,000,000 xp.

March 16, 2008

Hit 84 Thieving. My friend Hellsy was going for his 2k level (GRATS HELLS!) and I thought I'd tag along.

I got asked the other day what I thought the most important skill was. Now I know the person posting the question was looking for an answer like combat or fishing or woodcutting. But I thought about it and here's what I came up with-in no particular order.

1) Map Reading. In this I include using the map in game. I can tell you where the fruit tree patches are, but I'm not taking you there. I should be able to rattle off the names of the locations and you should be able to find them. I've had people ask me to come get them. As a rule my answer is no unless it's life or death. Then it's usually still no. Look, the game has a good map. Now there's a big gold star showing you where you are! Plus you can homeport!!

2) Planning/Organization. Some people have nice neat banks, others pile stuff in at random. The more time you spend looking for your stuff the less time you have to actually get xp. In addition, you will waste a lot of money and time standing in a bank trying to buy 1 air rune so you can tele. Think past the next thing you're going to do and get yourself ready.

3) Typing. I think it speaks for itself and it helps with.....

4) Communication. If nobody can understand you nobody can help you. You might think you save time by not using good spelling and punctuation (and sometimes you do) but if nobody can understand you then you need to fix it. I've been screamed at by people because I didn't answer the question they asked because I flat out didn't understand what the question was. And to be honest, a lot of the folks I know who really understand what's going on and how to optimize your game xp have the patience of a gnat. They aren't going to spend any more time then they have to explaining something.

5) Reading comprehension!!!! This is actually the one I think is most critical. It AMAZES me how many people on the RS forums don't read the updates or the post of the person above them and just ramble off. Or misread something and get all worked up about it. It also amazes me when people quest and they ask for help, someone will say what does the quest guide say. Sometimes it's something that's really complex and it's a legitimate head scratcher. Oftentimes it's something like "Take a beer to the goblin in the goblin village."

6) The ability to "Google". There are TONS of websites out there that can help you. If you dont' understand one there's others that might show the data in a different way. Plus there are forums, with tens of thousands of posts. Yes, you have to read a little but if you check for it you can usually find out about anything quite fast. If you're just a casual gamer then maybe this isn't very important. But if you're trying for a 99 then you should probably have a couple of forums/fansites that you check for the latest discoveries.

7) Healthy skepticism. Related to 6 and 5. People claim all kinds of crazy stuff. Go out and try it. But make your own decision. Think willows are faster then maples? Go cut each for an hour and see. Lots of people repeat stuff that they hear without testing. (I've read a lot of summoning guides written by people with summoning in the 60's claiming stuff that I've proven untrue). Read it, make sure you understand it and then try it out.

8) Have fun. I'll be the first person to admit I can be a bit intense at times. But this is meant to be fun. If you think picking 2,000,000 flax to make 2,000,000 bowstrings to buy 99 firemaking is fun go for it. I would poke my eye out first. Have fun with it. Yes, there are times you might have to train a skill a bit so you can get to something that's fun, but that's different.

As a side note on 8: I was searching the RS forums today looking for info on training hunter and thieving. I noticed that there are a lot of people who are either going for a cape or worry about "why isn't a quest cape respected more?" "is a fletching cape noob?" "My friend said thieving is noob".......WHO CARES? I see people stressed out about getting a 99 and then burning out. Realize that level 85 puts you at 25% of the xp needed! 25%!!!! And guess what? In most skills 85 would put you into the top 100,000 in RS in the skill!! Revel in that! Enjoy it.

I noticed that I'm ranked about 13,500 today. That means I outrank at least 5, 986,500 other people. And I'm still a noob because I don't have a cape!

Slayer 81.
Thieving 83.

Spent an hour burning logs this morning.

Thieving, Pyramid Plunder. Only took about an hour 45 minutes.

Got the slayer level by Jade Vine and Bork and one assignment. Took a few months. Nicely dovetailed with this effort though. If it hadn't I'd probably have done slayer most of the day. Hadn't really planned for it to happen this way but once I made my goal last month I figured that as long as I killed the Jade Vine daily I'd get this level without any other efforts (well, bork killing). So I didn't have to work it really. Gave me more time for other skills.

Used Superheat to smelt all my ores.

Cleaned out the junk in my bank by Summoning. Hit 81 Summoning.

December 7, 2008

Kept alive my streak of a level a day in December. Saturday got to 82 Thieving. In Pyramid Plunder it's always slow (to me) to get from a 0 level (70, 80) to a 1 level (71, 81). I worked on refining my thieving technique and here's how I'm doing it now:

Wear a ring of dueling and wield a Pharoah Sceptre. Tele to the pyramid and start your run. I like finding a world with 3-4 other people since you can find your door faster. Now, from levels ending in 6 to levels ending 0 (hope that makes sense) I loot the room 1 level down from my max until I have 2/3 of my time left. Then I go to my hardest room and clean it out. (You can experiment to get an idea of how much time you should leave yourself). From levels ending in 1 to levels ending in 5 I clean out the room one level below me then try to get through my max room as fast as I can. Usually this means I get all but one or two. But I also fail less so get more xp per run. Then I dueling ring to CW. Bank, sceptre back to mummy. Saves me running to the bank and then trying to find the mummy again.

Sunday I died twice at GWD due to my own stupidity. There's nothing anyone can learn from this other then that I am terrible at complex combat situations.

I went and finished my slayer task. 81 Defense. Should get a whole bunch of other combat related levels in the next few days. I train on control. Finished my 25th slayer assignment in a row.

As I was getting ready to wrap up my day I discovered that a star was going to fall soon. I got together 2 friends and we waited for it. The three of us had this level 5 all to ourself until the last level. Gained over 15k xp for 82 Mining.

On a side note: I got a Sinister Key from a Magpie a few days ago. I researched it and decided I should get 2 others before opening the chest, just to see how hard it was to do. Amazingly easy. Salarin dropped a key 2x in 5 kills. Took about 10 minutes total. Killed some chaos druids while I waited for him to respawn. Then I banked, and went with my 3 keys to the chest. Used all 3 (27 herbs) plus another 8 herbs, 2 unicorn horns and a snape grass from the druids. Not bad for ten minutes. You can only kill Salarin with mind rune spells, but it doesn't take long. I'd take a bit of food in case you run into problems the first time. Highly recommend it if you have good mage and need a bit of herbs. Definately came out ahead on it.

September 21, 2008

September 20th, hit 79 Thieving.

21st hit 80 Thieving. Another skill to 80. Did Pyramid Plunder all the way. Tried blackjacking menaphite thugs, and it was fast xp, but really really boring.

Going to be away for a few days. If I'm around it'll be to do a farming round or two. Going to focus on Runecrafting during the week and Construction on weekends. Need to break up my training a bit so that should be it for at least a couple of weeks. Smithing, well, I should get smithing xp building mithril armorstands. I've got a lot of ore left to smetl too, so if all goes well, I'll be able to hit all 80's without having to get out of my training plan.

September 14, 2008

Cleared out some rl issues so should be back to my usual playing (and blogging) self.

Used my penguin points from 2 weeks worth to get 67 Summoning. Spent some time at Pyramid Plunder while watching football the last 2 days. Got to 77 and 78 Thieving. Did some blackjacking of Menaphite thugs when the connection was good, but lots of lag this weekend.

15 more levels for all 80's (minus summoning). Then the question is what should the next big goal be.

I may post a poll later this week once I think about it a bit more.

1925 Total Levels.

August 3, 2008

Cleaned up my bank a bit. Been using the lumby ring to alch things I find that aren't worth a lot but still......

When I farm I have these little blocks of time that I need to restore run energy. Or I could drink a pot. Usually though, I stand at a bank and make some pots, alch a few things etc. The ring's handy for that. (yes, I do know it restores run energy too, I use them regularly).

Today couldn't focus and kept jumping from activity to activity. Was able to get 76 Thieving though. Burned some shades, farmed a bit etc.

I wanted to work on my rune defender but it was a little crowded in the Cyclops room. So I got a giant pouch instead. One item scratched off the list :D

April 4, 2008

Got to 54 Summoning. Happy with that and not going to spend more time there.

Picked up 2 more thieving levels (75 Thieving!)

Got to 74 Fletching. Started going for 75 and realized I was out of logs. But.....my woodcutting was getting close to leveling. All those trees I chopped down had inadvertently pushed my woodcutting close to a level.

So I worked to 77 Woodcutting. Which gave me just what I needed for 75 Fletching.

And that's 1800!

I have to say, it's been an interesting journey. My highest level is 84, lowest is 54. That's a 30 level spread. But, if you toss summoning since it's so new, then it becomes a 17 level spread.

While pushing for 1800 I definately learned a lot. And, while it might sound odd, the people I have a lack of patience (tolerance?) for has changed. It doesn't bother me to be called a noob or bugged anymore. At least not in the stupid harassment that usually takes place. Nope, my new pet peeves are what I call the "repeater-experts". Example, ask the best way to level thieving and they answer Pyramid Plunder. Really? Cause I would say it has a lot to do with what your current level is and what your goals are. And whether you've done Contact. But it's pretty obvious who's been reading the guides and are just repeating what they read. And that annoys me. Usually I ignore it. But....man....I guess I just want people to go out and try stuff before telling people it's the best. And I really really get annoyed when someone makes fun of how someone chooses to train.

Ok, it's late. I'm cranky. Just got bullied at KBD. Grrr.
